5-08-04:
Union Pacific announced they have cancelled the contract to operate the UPS "bullet train" between Los Angeles and New York that also has CSX operating the easterly part; Citing lack of crews and operating congestion because of growth in business as the reasons.

This was business UP outbid BNSF for with BNSF saying they needed enough revenue to
reflect the cost of expediting the bullet train at the expense of other traffic. BNSF formerly handled this train and apparently their experience allowed them to price the service to make a profit while still handling their other business.

UPs got a pile of problems. Their poor handling of the Sunset is just a symptom of a much larger problem. This is another.
