Do any members of the forum know to whom the charter cars sitting in MKE Union Station belong? I saw them sitting there both going and returning from my last trip, and all that was labelled on the side was "Charter." The cars were in what appeared to be the old NYC lightning stripe paint scheme.

I don't recall their presence at MKE last november when I attanded the Train Show. I noticed them when I went through on my way to and from Florida in March. At first, I thought that Bill Gardner & the WSOR were returning to running their own passenger charters, but then I remembered several statements by Mr. Gardner to the opposite effect. Which charter would own these cars?

If I remember correctly, the NYC cars are owned by the owner of Marquette Electronics, a local Milwaukee firm. Maybe if you did a web search for railroad private cars or some such you could get more information.

On my last Hiawatha trip (May 17, 2002) one of the charter cars rode the rear of the train in both directions. I cannot find the consist log, so I cannot tell you what the name, configuration, or paint scheme of the car was. Aside from that I've never seen those cars move. Then again, out of three trips to the station, seeing it move once is pretty heavy use. When I hit the lottery I will purchase ex-Amtrak dome 9411, repair the deck, and ride around the country.

The "charter" cars are not for hire. They are the private business cars of Charter Wire Manufacturing of Milwaukee
