The last three paragraphs repeat the nonsense about how nobody rides long distance trains and that they are the biggest financial drain. Plus the profit/loss chart gives Amtrak's fully allocated costs for the LD trains, but the NEC costs are limited to operational costs. Amtrak shoots itself in the foot by reporting financials this way.

Grrr. is right! I hope Amtrak writes the author/publisher some rebuttal to at least clarify the revenue and cost structure that was published here. Not a good time to be touting this around about "money guzzling" long distance service trains. Amtrak really needs to be careful on how they report, even in terms of presentation, their financial statements to the public. The author probably extracted that chart used in the article from Amtrak's financial statements, and then made her own intepretation/chart of it for inclusion in this article.
