Since complimentary sodas have been discontinued in the sleeping cars for first class passengers, will they now be an extra charge item, like wine, in the dining car for first class?

Not to worry. Beverages are still included with your meal. The sodas in the sleeping cars were allegedly removed because they weren't all getting to the sleeping car passengers.

There may not be sodas, but juices, coffee and water are still plentiful.

As mentioned, not only do you still have sodas as a drink choice in the diner, they give you the full 12 oz can too. Now if you want a second one, they will charge you $1.50 (same as in the lounge).

As far as the sleepers, in addition to pulling the sodas they decided to do away with cranberry juice - my favorite, naturally! So yes you do have coffee, apple and orange juice and bottled water available - although you may have to ask the attendant for water, as they don't seem to be setting it out like before.
