Does anyone know if they still run the equip. from the Cap is run through to LAX on the Chief?

I rode those two trains to the Grand Canyon in April 2003, and it was the same equipment, I have heard that they might not do that anymore. I have ridden 29&30 since then but I had no way of telling if it is the same equipment.

I went from LAX to DC in February and it was the same equipment at that time.

I rode the Chief in March, and they ran the same equipment. The conductor confirmed it. I also came across Cap timetables from what must have been the previous trip in the lounge car. This arrangement seems a bit odd. The time between the two trains in CHI is only a couple of hours. Thats not a lot of turn-around time, especially if the Chief is late!

I thouht the run-throuh is only westbound now and that they don't do the run-through on the eastbound trains. Someone mentioned this change occurred when the Capitol Limited changed the eastbound departure to 5:35 p.m. Course, there have been times when a makeshift Chief has been comprised due to a late arriving Capitol Limited.

Yes - not a lot of time clean and prepare the train for the run through - in either direction for that matter. Good thing it doesn't happen in NYC - it would never make it.
