Hey,

I've heard that they are no longer operating that little refurbished turboliner train from Albany to New York City anymore on account of heating/cooling issues as well as a battle with the NY government over funding of these trains.. is this true or just a rumor? And if not true does anyone know what schedule they typically operate on?
The loss of this equipment is, simply put, not a good thing. Here Amtrak had an interesting, good looking (dare I say **** ?) and comfortable piece of equipment that someone is allowing to rot away in storage somewhere. The use of the standard amfleet equipment over what is perhaps the most beautiful short haul trip on the Amtrak system just ain't gonna cut in for much longer. Train riders deserve better, especially since the fare on this run is not cheap ($90+ for the short 280 mile round trip, probably mile for mile one of the most expensive on the system.) Oh Amtrak (sigh)

The turboliners were a bad idea when new and have not improved with age. They are high maintenance fuel hogs. The amenities could be applied to other coaches and a good diesel attached to the front. South Korea runs some really great medium to long distance diesel trains, and they do get to 100 mph. Maybe we should try one of theirs.
