Forgive the post, not so much about trains, but if you like transportation history regarding ocean liners and cruise ships as well as a good train trip , this might be worth an AMTRAK trip (mandatory train reference of AMTRAK) to NYC...I'm booked on the ' Crescent' and 'Carolinian'! (coach class, of course) [Cool]

From 'Maritme Matters'

THE ROAD TO ALANG Leads to NYC
The Southstreet Seaport Museum in New York City will be screening Maritime Matters' contributing editor Peter Knego's documentary ON THE ROAD TO ALANG on Wednesday, December 7.

http://www.maritimematters.com/mall_alang_pk.html

The program will begin in the Melville Gallery at 213 Water Street at 6:00 PM with a showing of the video. Afterwards, Peter Knego will provide a slide show update, which will include visits to RITA (ex WINDSOR CASTLE), RED BOAT II (ex EUGENIO C), EXPLORER (ex PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT, etc.) and other ships recently broken up on the "Beach of Doom", where cruise ships go to die in Alang, India.

Knego will also answer questions and happily sign copies of his ON THE ROAD TO ALANG and THE WORLD's PASSENGER FLEET videos. The event is called "Breakers and Boneyards: Scrapping the Liners".

Admission is $5 for members, $10 non members.

Call 212.748.8766 for reservations.
