Thanks for the trip report. You've adequately summed up the Carolinian experiance......it'll usually get you there but don't expect too much.

Interestingly, the newest Carolina Association for Passenger Trains newsletter arrived today. Here's what's new regarding the Cary station -

1) The new platform at Cary along the CSX line (opposite side of the building from where the Carolinian and Piedmont stop) is nearly complete and the Silver Star will begin stopping in Cary later this month. (I knew this already.).

2) They suggested that future transfers between the Silver Star and Piedmont will take place at Cary rather than Raleigh. (I suspected this would be the case.)

3) They reported that the DMV office at Cary (which was really a DMV office that happened to look like a train station to begin with) is relocating to a larger facility and that Cary will become a staffed station complete with agent at that time. (Totally news to me. We'll see if it happens......after all, NCDOT has been planning a passenger train to Asheville since 1994.)

Advocating for passenger trains since 1973!

Climbing toward 5,000 posts like the Southwest Chief ascending Raton Pass. Cautiously, not nearly as fast as in the old days, and hoping to avoid premature reroutes.
