I am always amazed at the sleeper prices on Amtrak. Last night we booked a roomette on the Zephyr from Chicago to Reno for $262..I would imagine the low bucket. I figured..eight months ahead of time, why not? I was originally going to book this morning. Out of curiousity I checked the prices for the roomettes today and they jumped up to $541!..not just for the day I was going but pretty much overall. I m glad I didn t wait those extra few hours!

Is this a normal jump in sleeper fares or an anomoly? I am so glad we booked yesterday!

Wierd things happen with super low fares sometimes.

I've learned that when I see something that seems abnormally cheap (like your Chicago-Reno fare) to go ahead and book it right then and put the rest of the pieces into place later.

You've got 8 months now to plan the rest of the trip around your bargain railfare!
