California bullet train: The high price of speed

quote:
Across the length of the Central Valley, the bullet train as drawn would destroy churches, schools, private homes, shelters for low-income people, animal processing plants, warehouses, banks, medical offices, auto parts stores, factories, farm fields, mobile home parks, apartment buildings and much else as it cuts through the richest agricultural belt in the nation and through some of the most depressed cities in California.
Guess what, folks...If you construct an all-new high-speed rail line through a major city, and civic leaders have asked for a downtown station stop...you're going to have to close, move, or relocate some businesses, homes, and schools! How terrible...this sort of thing NEVER happens with highways and freeways, now, does it?

These people will be crying all the way to the bank. To hear them talk you would think they are being robbed. Nope. They are simply positioning themselve to receive a bigger payout.
