My story about our ride in July on the Cumbres & Toltec is now available on TrainWeb's main page. Please have a look. The C&T is one fine operation and it exceeded my already lofty expectations.

I've been to the Cumbres & Toltec 5 times since 1999. It is my favorite railfan destination.

The Durango & Silverton is great as well but at the C&T you get so much more of a sense of "this IS how it was." Riding the C&T it is so easy to imagine that you've stepped back to 1950 - or 1925.

Advocating for passenger trains since 1973!

Climbing toward 5,000 posts like the Southwest Chief ascending Raton Pass. Cautiously, not nearly as fast as in the old days, and hoping to avoid premature reroutes.
