Looks like reality has set in with NC and VA acknowledging low probability of SEHSR getting off the ground. 79 mph is good enough

But, this is certainly a practical approach and one that might actually happen. I was particularly pleased with this comment: "North Carolina is working with Virginia on prospects for adding more passenger train service between Greensboro and Washington.

That is certainly the fastest way to improve transit times for daytime service between Charlotte/Greensboro and the NEC.

It is encouraging to see two states working together with minimal federal help (interference?).

I agree, Mr. Palmland. A conventional train would make a lot of sense and cost much less.

I wish the same type of thinking applied to Calif. I have long thought that an extension of the Pacific Surfliner north, from San Luis Obispo to the Bay Area, would make a lot of sense. Daylight only. Especially if it would offer lounge and observatory cars along with excellent food service. Be a lot cheaper than 68 billion for HSR.
