West Wendover, Nevada, near the Utah border, is planning on being a new Calif. Zephyr stop.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865617563/West-Wendover-planning-new-train-station-for-Amtrak-passenger-service.html

It would get into West Wendover, westbound, at 1:00 AM. Eastbound at 12:30 AM.

I wonder if they will ever change the Zephyr timetable. I was thinking of a trip to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone via the Zephyr, but the stop at Salt Lake city is at 3 AM. Possibly a stop in West Wendover, overnight there, then rent a car and drive to Idaho Falls and over to WY? I don't know if you could rent a car in West Wendover, the population is only 4500.

I do wish the Wendover area luck with this dream.
I worry that an often many hours late LONG distance pax train in the middle of the night would face difficulty attracting people and REPEAT business.

You would need a separate Salt Lake to Wendover state corridor train to get good timekeeping and reliable service. YOu could run other corridors direct from Ogden thru SLC to Wendover + Provo thru SLC to Wendover. That would connect all the major population centers of Utah with the Wendover resorts + casinos. If this is such a Good and hot idea this new Utah corridor train would easily work with a GOOD management team.
