In the latest Railfan & Railroad, there is an article by George Drury where he traveled on various California rail lines during 2000.

In one segment he mentions riding an Iron Triangle in the Bay/Delta area in the afternoon: Oakland to SF; SF-Mountain View CalTrain; Mountain View-Sunnyvale VTA light rail; Sunnyvale-Stockton ACE; Stockton-Oakland Amtrak. He mentioned that the ACE train outbound had a full platform of folks waiting for it; this was before the tech downturn. Does anyone know if the ACE is still that crowded?

Incidentally a "smaller" traingle is possible, taking VTA Mountain View-Baypointe Transfer-Tamien and CalTrain between Tamien and Mountain View.

In So Cal, a triangle is possible using Metrolink's OC line, the Inland Empire-Orange County line, and the San Bernardino line.
