The standard gauge railrod line Gardanne - Carnoules in central Provence in the south of France, today maintained only for military purposes, was once an important transport highway for bauxite, wine and other local products. Opened in 1880 for passenger and freight, passenger traffic ceased just prior to WWII, freight in 1990.
Since 10+ years, the association ATTCV collects French historic diesel railcars (Picasso, Caravelle, ...) and other rail vehicles (locomotives, freight cars, passengar cars, ...).
A railcar service for tourists is offered from April to October each year between Carnoules-les-Platanes and Brignoles.
A presentation in English of the railroad, the rolling stock and the tourist service can be found in http://railtrain.org/attcv/.
