Due to much recent expansion, the Indiana & Ohio Rail System (a RailAmerica subsidiary) has suddenly found itself power short. Several units are currently on lease to help out, including several CEFX units (1 ex-UP SD40-2, 3 ex-SP SD45T-2's, 1 ex-SP SD45, and 1 GP38-3, a former SP GP35), and 2 LLPX GP38's. A TP&W GP40-2LW also possibly will soon be arriving to help out on their sister road. In addition, it has been noted that several "deadlined" units, sent to the storage line when RailAmerica decided to retire all non-645 EMD power from its lines, have started receiving attention. They include GP7 #53, GP9 #61, GP30M #87, and Central Railroad of Indiana (CIND, I&O subsidiary) GP30 #2252. 61 and 53 have both been seen idiling in front of the locomotive shop in Norwood, Ohio in recent days, and the still-operable 87 has disappeared from the deadline along with the CIND 2252. Could this be their last hurrah on the I&O?
