Courtesy of George Gibson, here is a link to images of Al Sandrini’s Dixie Creek Central HOn30 layout. Al’s layout was on Model Railroads Of Southern California’s Layout Tour #37 this past weekend.

The layout room is only 6.5 feet x 11.5 feet in size, but it packs a lot of narrow gauge railroading in the space. Al recently added two loops of track around the layout and across the doorway to provide continuous running. The upper level is semi-permanent, but the lower loop is seldom connected.

The scenery on the layout is about ninety-five percent completed, as is the track work. Al is planning an interchange with a larger road to transfer ore and lumber out of the area. The interchange itself may be off of the layout and a dual-gauge track might be needed to give the appearance of an interchange area.

Some of you in the Bakersfield might remember Al as the former owner of B & F Hobbies. That shop has been gone for several years.

We have had a number of narrow gauge layouts on our tours over the years and more are coming. Check the website for details on future free self-guided tours, including a tour in conjunction with the National Narrow Gauge Convention.
