The Adirondack Scenic Railroad, in upstate New York, is restoring the line that starts in Utica and runs north through Adirondack State Park to Lake Placid.Only about a third of the full route seems to be operational right now. At the moment, their trains travel about two and a half hours up the line from Utica's Union Station (where the Lake Shore Limited and several other Amtrak trains stop).
Their fairly extensive roster includes a number of restored CN/VIA coaches, along with an F7 that once belonged to the Alaska Railroad.
The engine was still painted in full Alaska colors when the Adirondack began using it to haul trains through the eastern forests of New York. A very bizarre sight, but very cool.
