This happened in Danville, VA and is referred to as 'The Wreck of the Old '97'. It would have happened more than 74 years ago. My grandfather is 94 and has an excellent memory but we are trying to refresh our memories.

My Grandpa was a Railroad Engineer on an old Shay Steam engine.
Thanks.
