Does anyone know if there are any plans of reviving the Silver Palm, adding a sleeper to the Palmetto, or making a whole new train to Florida. (All if equipment is available)

Because I would love to ride in a sleeper to Tampa but no one can, they either have to endure coach or transfer from the star or meteor onto a bus.

I'm afraid that's a "don't hold your breath" one.

Lest we forget, to my best knowledge, the two Viewliners involved in the May 2003 incident at Hinesville remain out of service.

Who knows why they have not been returned to service as they did not appear from photos to be irreparably damaged. I sincerely hope I'm misstaken, but I'm starting to wonder that since there was an employee fatality arising from that incident, they may have been impounded as evidence for any civil litigation arising from the needless and tragic death. If this be the case, who knows when they will be returned to service.

BTW, the employee as of this past February has been added to the "honor roll' at Wash Union Station.

According to my most recent Amtrak Schedule the Palmetto 89/90 New York - Miami stops in Tampa.
After I posted it I am now editing, I see the concern Business is the highest level available. Maybe this is an economic thing that they are slowly doing away with sleepers. Hope not.

When the sleeper was dropped from trains 89/90 (and the name changed back to Palmetto from Silver Palm) it was said that Amtrak did not want to operate a sleeping car on a train that had no diner. (Economizing by dropping 89/90's diner was the intent.)

Now, with various accidents and other problems with the Viewliners I don't think that Amtrak has the equipment available to run a sleeper on 89/90 again.

Ironically, in a move made since the sleeper came off 89/90, the Cardinal now runs with a sleeper but without a diner.
