Is the Seattle station open 24/7?
Could you sleep there?

According to the website, Seattle King Street hours are 6A-1030P Daily.

Seattle is no place to be "on the cheap'. The best advice I can offer is budget the $90 or so needed for a modest hotel room (sample rate at a Holiday Inn Express; 226 Aurora Ave - 2 miles from King St.).

I doubt if too much of your "handle' is offered at that property, but the complimentary cinnamon flavored breakfast rolls are quite good.

If you're willing to sleep at the station, a hostel will suit you fine. $24/night at HI Seattle.

When I was last there the Seattle King Street Station was undergoing some pretty major renovations. As mentioned before there are good hostels in Seattle, the HI Seattle and also the Green Tortoise (which also has private rooms). Both hostels are within a block or two of the Pike Street Market area. There are some vagrants that hang around the area just a few blocks north of the train station so they do not allow you to camp out overnight to discourage a 'bad element' from taking over. Buses in the dowtown area are free from 6am-7pm (?) and run right past both hostels.
