This article was found on the Washington Post website, and reflects a rather unusual delay on train 92.

This sure doesnt create an incentive to riding the train [Frown]

You won't find an article on airlines when things go bad.

Absolutely right. One of my best yet was the announcement heard in Memphis while waiting for a 4+ hour late flight to Dallas: "Passengers for Flight XXX to Jackson, Mississippi, please go to Baggage Claim for your ground transportation to Jackson." In other words, their 45 minute flight just turned into a four hour bus ride. That is for domestic. To really get a good experience in what airlines can do to you, you need to take an overseas flight. Over the last 15 years I have had at least 10 nights in hotels at various locations from Detroit to Macau courtesy of the airlines, and that is out of not much more than 20 round trips total. A couple of trips actually had two nights on the same trip. Explain that to your boss when you show up for work two days late.

I would have to say that being stuck at an airport for 4-6+ hours because of a delayed flight, and being stuck on an Amtrak train in coach class that is 14+ hours behind schedule, would not be comparing apples to apples.

Having just rode train 92 last week, and even when it was only 1 hour late pulling into Raleigh, it was all I could do to get off of it.

Most airports have several restaurants, fast food joints, newstands, TV's, lounges/bars, plently of wide open concourses to stretch your legs and walk about. You can go outside for a breath of fresh air and take a smoke at your leisure.

Those folks on the Silver Star that trip had none of that. I can only imagine being stuck, stopped, and trapped for 5 hours at a signal light and how frustrating it must have been for the families onboard. About the same as sitting on the airport tarmac for 5 hours in the snow and not being able to get off the plane.

It could have been a more fair and balanced report...if that was even possible in this 'worse case scenario'.

I am sure Amtrak lost a lot of good customers that day. And lost even more potential customers in the process.

Brilliant idea!!! I up for it.

We love to share not only our bad experiences with each other, but our good ones as well....lets's let her know about ***ALL*** of the wonderful experiences we have ALL had on Amtrak as well. This should open her eyes to not just this one experience, which I am quite sure is her only one, and a second-hand experience at that.

I wonder if she has ever even rode Amtrak to get a first-hand experience?

And this article being in the Washington Post, I am sure loads of folks on 'The Hill' read it too...the 'ones' that make the decisions.

Lets take this chance and FLOOD them with emails...
