Anyone know what AMTRAK train stop is nearest to Amana, Iowa? And how far away is it?

Thanks

Ira

Amtrak says 59.74 miles. Mapquest says 71.8 miles.

I believe the difference between my compilation and that of Miss Vicki's arises from I took mine from a hotel in Coralville at Jct 1-80 and I-380 where I stay when I go out that way.

I do know that there are taxicabs that can be arranged to take you to Amana. If the station is still staffed, phone them directly to arrange the taxicab.

I guarantee you the closest auto rental is Iowa City. Most will avoid all these problems and simply fly DIA-CID; I wonder why.

While not originally staffed in the Amtrak era, the Mt. Pleasant, Iowa station is a staffed station now. The agent moved there from Burlington following the great flood of 1993 when the waiting room of the Burlington station became a wading room.

Personally, I wish someone with some pull in Burlington would decide that the full restoration of their train station was a worthwhile project.

One note in looking for rental cars; you would likely find them, if neccessary, at the Burlington airport. It's tiny but not too far out of town. Last time I was there (other than riding through on the train) they still had a gravel parking lot. That would have been 1998 or so.

Thank you Group. Looks like a road trip at this point. I'll keep checking the fares but they seem prohibitive at the moment compared to driving. Add onn renting a car when I get there, and that makes it a very expensive trip even for a special concert (Riders in the Sky - Radio Theater Special show). The timing would be great though - leave Denver in the early evening and get to Iowa mid morning, drive to the concert, stay overnight and catch the train home the next afternoon.

Uh oh. I am one of those baby-boomers going to be on the roads with the twenty somethings. In my VW Camper (not anymore, but there was a time) up against Escalades and Hummers and the ubiquitous Subarus...

Come on Congress. Let me get off the roads...
