Any news on Amtrak shutdowns on the southeast US coast?

If you go to Amtrak.com you will see an announcement of all the cancellations at the top of the front page. The storm is moving so fast that probably many of the ones cancelled yesterday are running today.

Here is the latest update from Amtrak:

Service Alert: New Orleans Service Restoration Plan: Crescent & City of New Orleans Affected

September 6, 2008
7:00 am CDT

Amtrak is announcing the restoration of the Atlanta-New Orleans portion of the Amtrak Crescent route, following the landfall of Hurricane Gustav. Amtrak is continuing to work with CN railroad in order to restore the Memphis-New Orleans portion of the Amtrak City of New Orleans route.

Those passengers with telephone contact information in their reservations are being called by Amtrak and offered options including future travel dates. Ticketed passengers affected by this temporary service suspension will be eligible for refunds.

Crescent, Trains 19 & 20

Service will resume to and from New York and New Orleans, effective with the departure of the southbound Train 19 from New York on September 6 and the northbound Train 20 from New Orleans on September 7.

City of New Orleans , Trains 58 & 59

Service is temporarily suspended south of Memphis for the southbound Train 59 through September 7 and for the northbound Train 58 through September 8, while repairs are made to CN railroad property north of New Orleans.

Amtrak regrets any inconvenience. This information is correct as of the above time and date. Information is subject to change as conditions warrant. Passengers are encouraged to call 800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.com for schedule information and train status updates.

Lest we forget, there is Ike out there that could make a potential double landfall - First Miami THEN New Orleans.
