Here is the section that caught my eye:

"..the business plan shall be accompanied by a comprehensive fleet plan for all Amtrak rolling stock which shall address the Corporation's detailed plans and timeframes for the maintenance, refurbishment, replacement, and expansion of the Amtrak fleet.."

About time.

Also I see they continue to talk about: "...plan to improve the financial performance of food and beverage service....and first class service (including sleeper car service.."

Let us hope that doesn't mean more cross country cafe cars. I wouldn't be surprised to see that the sleeping car analysis will show they contribute more (or lose less) than coaches.

GBN,
Thanks for providing that information. I'm looking at page 936, and it looks like the gov't funding for capital and repair goes down from the current FY09 to FY10 ($977 to $930). Am I reading that correctly?

Palmland,
Intuitively, it seems to me that coaches, with their lack of amenities and higher passenger density will always bring in more revenue per passenger/mile than 1st class. I'd love to be corrected on that impression; I'm not holding my breath. If you are correct, then it would blow GBN's theory of LD trains out of the water.
