Typical Fox News, making a news story out of a lie. She kept repeating the lie over and over again. I guess if you say it often enough you begin to believe it. Yeah, these morons didnt read the stimulus bill either. Fox News and Megan Kelly should be ashamed.

This story was on a Trains Magazine web page with considerable discussion about the impracticality of it from professionals in railroading.
Of all the items which may be proposed for the $8B this would be far, far down on the list. But Mr. Reid, as do other politicians, gets his money from home state donaters. Seems strange that all of the wild criticism directed to the previous administration is no longer deemed appropriate, but politics does not CHANGE (there is that word again)when another party is placed in control.

I don't believe Sen. Reid ever stated that a portion of the 8 billion will go to the Las Vegas to Southern Calif (Victorville or Anaheim), and I'm not sure but I don't think he mentioned a Bunny Ranch stop. However, at least from what I have read, The 8 billion "started out" from HR 2095, passed last November. It stated (then) 1.5 billion could go to various passenger train corridors who had the capability for 110 mph speed. The 1.5 billion has mushroomed into 8 billion.
The original Nov bill enumerated 11 corridors. However, I believe the Secretary of Transportation can modify existing corridors or change them. From what I can tell, Sen. Reid suggested some of the 8B stimulus might go to the LV-So. Calif train, but did not specifically state it would.
I think the chances of ever seeing a "Desert Xpress" would depend a lot on Las Vegas and LV casino backing.

I have to acknowledge that it is trash like this is why I have simply given up on cable news channels, whether BillO and Sean or Kieth and Madcow. With their absolutely blatant biases, they compromise their standings as recognized news-sources and work closer towards becoming Comedy Central News Hour.
As I have noted on numerous occasions here in the past, I sincerely agree with any who hold that a properly "launched' Angels-Meadows service would be an overnight success - "plain old trains' but 'six a day" of such. Two Attendants assigned to a properly provisioned Food Service car (WB last call would be at Summit on Cajon) would be the only service enhancement.
But I think we are all aware that there is no infrastructure - Class I track capacity - to support any such initiative.

On my home remote I have blocked the channels for both Fox and MSNBC though I will sometimes drop by MSNBC (like twice a month maybe) for a few minutes if I'm in the mood for hearing Fox get bashed. Is it news? No. Is it entertainment? Debatable.
Now that I can't seem to get any 'news' on CNN Headline News thanks to Nancy Grace (I do not like incessant coverage of dead children and the adults who should never have been parents to begin with), that channel will be the next I block......perhaps even today.
Bottom line - by the time it's all said and done, my only sources for television 'news' will likely be ABC and Comedy Central's satirists.

On occasion we watch the BBC-America channel in the evening for the days' news. Pretty dry, but it's just news and no trash. Imagine that.

I watch some of them, dependent upon who they have as guests or the subject matter they discuss.
But I do not consider them NEWS channels but rather discussion sites where time is spent about particular issues. News can be found on ABC etc.
In spite of their apparent decline I still read two daily newspapers as my primary source for news; and will turn on the TV if there is breaking news of significance.

Because none of them overlap in their broadcasts here, I watch all of them; Keith O' and Rachel M on MSNBC, and Bill O' and now less frequently so Glenn Beck on FOX (he was better on CNN), as well as CNN, ABC, and CBS News, then try and decipher what the real news is. I wont listen to Rush L because he just spews hate. Nor will I watch now Hannity after Colmes left because he is just a plain unabashed hater like Rush L.
Somewhere out there is a national news source that reports NEWS, unopinionated news. I just havent found it yet.

I would contend that the "Comedy Central News Hour" (Stewart and Colbert?) is a much more reputable news source than Fox or MSNBC. The interviews are intelligent and respectful, and the humor encourages a healthy skepticism for what we are fed in the rest of cable news.

TwinStar, you speak words of wisdom with the same clarity a couple of my real life friends who live in the Twin Cities do. Must be something to that Zip 5 stuff.......and I agree with you re: Stewart and Colbert.
