GBN,
Would you check your private messages, please?

For the rest of you, I'm just thanking him for an act of kindness. Also, though, I have it in the back of my mind, for some reason, that GBN's birthday is either at the end of this month or the beginning of next. Is my recollection correct?

That is the same day as my grandson, Leo's. Have to get baby Leo something for his first! Don't know if he's going to be a "railfan" yet.

I shall hoist a glass of the very best honest plonk I can afford to the good Mr. Norman at 5 p.m. CST on July 31. He is a shining light of reason, knowledge and experience in this often contentious forum.

Henry, are you sure you're not just saying that 'cause he's a fellow Chicagoland guy? Wish I were up there for one of those famous Italian beef sandwiches.

Mr. Norman is certainly one of the nicest elderly gentlemen here;
oh-oh; better watch what I say-- I'm not that far behind him! [Smile]

So to Mr. Norman:

In the city among the walls the overland passenger train is choked and the pistons hiss and the wheels curse. On the prairie the overland flits on phantom wheels and the sky and the soil between them muffle the pistons and cheer the wheels...

Happy Birthday GBN, from Bob (and Carl!)

GBN - Hope you enjoy many more fine wines, great music, and even a good train ride or two. Happy Birthday.

Now, if you could crank up your time machine, which limited from the great era would you select to lift a glass wine on July 31. Of course the train must have a Pullman operated observation-lounge car. The Merchants Ltd, 20th Century, Panama Ltd or ...?
