We have been out of town for a few days and had a message from Amtrak waiting for us. The scheduled arrival of the CZ -No. 5 into Emeryville has been changed to 6:30pm from 5:10 for our 9/26 departure. Anyone know why? I thought UP had been doing a good job recently. Perhaps since the Wyoming reroute should be over then, trackwork has moved west of Salt Lake?

Hmmm....good question. I just played around with various dates, and the arrival time into EMY varies between now and roughly a month from now. For example, if you choose a departure date from Chicago on October 26th, the arrival time into EMY shows to be 4:10PM---wow! The arrival time for the next several days is the usual 5:10PM, but the arrival time around your trip is 6:30PM. I did not see any service notes to indicate why that is happening. I wonder what's up?

In the case of #5(26), from a review of the website and the printed TT, it appears that the extra time has been added between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. Appearntly it will run via the D&RGW, but subject to delay.

Why? anyone.

If I read the UP website correctly, there is some indication of increased coal originations from D&RGW based mines.
