Will be imitating GBN this summer as we take a driving trip northward with overnights at 7 Marriott/Courtyard Marriott properties along the way (among other places). Among other things we will take day trips on the couple short Amtrak segments we are missing: Quincy-Galesburg and Dearborn (Detroit)-Pontiac as well as my son's missing segments of Grand Rapids-CHI and STL-KCY. The Music City Star and some day rides in Canada plus the South Shore Line and a visit to the rail museums in STL and Union, IL will complete the rail activities. Will think of GBN as we skirt the western suburbs of Chitown.

Here are my reviews for two Marriott properties at which I stayed on my "Salt Lake or Bust' junket:

Denver

Salt Lake City

And an independent to which I note "stay at your own risk":

Cheyenne

Two other Marriott properties at Omaha and Kansas City , for which there was no particular reason to write a review, were also on the journey (GBN's days of 'grab a wink at a truck stop" are LOOOOONG over).

All told, the Marriott points earned from these stays are sufficient to have a 'freebie' at Roswell GA this upcoming weekend (again auto: Amtrak "uh not exactly' in the CHI-ATL market; however Amtrak is "in the running" for two later trips I have planned - Stamford and Fredericksburg).

GBN: When is your trip to Stamford? That's on my agenda in late summer.
