Does Amtrak have a policy on bringing your own beer on board the train? The reason I ask is that the beer selection on the.. Coast Starlight trip up to OKJ was very weak.

In the sleepers, I've seen people set up their own full bar! Perfectly acceptable to BYOBeer into the sleeper and consume it there. In coach, unfortunately it can't be done.

Amtrak sells pretty good beer, wine, & booze on the trains, I believe--and prices didn't used to be too terrible. But it may vary from train to train. . . .

The Coast Starlight, back when it was originally relaunched (back when there was an "Amtrak West" division, and all new Superliner II's were delivered to that train), the lounge car sold all sorts of great beer and microbrews. They made sure that the beer matched the locations that they were traveling through. I remember one trip where I had my first "Labatts Blue", and it was very good. But these days, you can only get the standard stuff that cubzo is referring to.

Yes Smitty is correct. The first time I took the Starlight I was introduced to Stones Breweries Arrogant ******* Ale and thats what I was looking for on this trip. Oh well the Surfliner still carries it.

The Surfs still put up some micro-brews I believe; they seem to have some India Pale Ales and that hard-to-drink (for me) big bottle of something called Arrogant *******. Maybe the name puts me off of that stuff, since all here know I am extremely humble and modest.
Oops, the software wouldn't allow me to type the name of that brew.. Cal guys and riders of the S-liners know what it is.

Interesting, Arrogant [illegitimate child] is 7.2% ABV which is pretty strong especially by American standards. Most beers are 4-5% ABV. Virtually all beer afficionados that I know, plus myself, go for flavour and quality over strength.

This Arrogant beer is very tasty it is described as being aggressively hoppy. On the back of the bottle it states that you probably won't like it and that you are unworthy.
