From some reports, hotels and motels, in major cities, may have bed bug infestations of up to 70% (depending on the city) It seems that it would be a good idea to prevent the little critters from hopping to your suitcase, then to your Amtak sleeper, and finally to your home.
Kind of a nuisance to have to use zip lock bags or travel space bags, in your luggage, but it is probably a good idea. Putting your suitcase and other luggage onto a luggage rack, rather than the bed, also sounds rational.
I would have to think the main thing is to toss both clean and dirty clothing immediately into the washing machine, when you get home, or send suitable items to the dry cleaners. I wonder, especially with the blankets found in the Amtrak sleepers, if Amtrak does regular washing or dry cleaning of their bedding material? As bed bugs can also attach themselves to recently purchased clothing (I purchase a lot of clothing from LL Bean), it is suggested that even newly purchased clothing be tossed into the washer upon unpacking. They say to wash the clothing at as high a temperature as possible.

I haven't been anywhere for a while, and I got them in my apartment! Can they move between rooms?
