Thanks for that link, RRRICH. I just looked at the covers, a lot of which look very familiar to me. As a youngster, I would "railfan" GCT and Penn Station in New York where many of those timetables would be available to the public on racks near the ticket windows and information booths. I seem to remember a setup right near the famous clock at GCT where it was pretty much "help yourself," and, when I was not getting picked up by the GCT Police because I looked like a potential runaway, I used to do just that mostly circa mid and late 50's. I had quite a collection at one time, but, alas, it went the way of my baseball card collection.
P.S. If anyone needs some research done, I have a 1956 Official Guide.

1970-1981 - and hardly high up enough to be on the masthead.
While the masthead is that of the Traffic Department, and I was most of the way Finance & Accounting, about a half-dozen of the names listed I had heard before.
