According to the WSJ, a new scenic excursion train will operate from Saratoga Springs starting this July. Yet another reason to hop on Amtrak's Adirondack.

I'd have hefty "grains of salt" for anything with Iowa Pacific associated with it.
Think, Ski Train.
Also; think Amtrak Mail & Express and some of the dramatis personae involved with that caper (whoops; initiative).
Word to the wise: lay NO money down; if you're there and it is same, fine!!!

Mike, it should be an interesting trip. Here is a pdf link to an interview with Iowa Pacific CEO, Ed Ellis by the Tourist Railway Assoc. If you can wade through the ads, its pretty interesting. Sounds like he plans to turn it into a Ski Train-east. Should be a scenic ride and surprisingly lengthy at 50 miles.
While it appears GBN has serious doubts about Mr. Ellis, I like to think he is something of an innovator. His mail and express initiative at Amtrak was a failure. But maybe it wasn't the idea that was bad, just the execution. Amtrak could certainly use a strong dose of initiative and innovation that is sorely lacking now.
