I have learned of Mr. Ainsworth's death in a rather embarrassing fashion - namely from this posting I made over at Railroad Net (several related posts follow):
My response to Mr. Deasy, in which I convey a thought that has been noted around here in the past:
Well Mr. Deasy, I've been known to put "foot in mouth" in this department, but I would hope I get some leeway in that I'm really not all that much a railfan, and have, beyond knowing former PV owners of NYC4 Phillip and Beverly Birk, had nothing to do with the Private Car community.
Possibly, I should have noted that the last update of the Dome Main pages occurred during October 2011 and that several of Mr. Ainsworth's posting had suggest he was "rather" overweight, I should have surmised "something may have happened", but this gives rise to that the Internet is now a mature institution and things are starting to happen to its participants. The world at large has no way of knowing when one such as Mr. Ainsworth has passed, and I wish there was a way to know so that I would not fall into embarrassing incidents such as this.
Possibly someone who knew Mr. Ainsworth well, i.e. face to face, could contact the family, obtain access to the site, and update it with some kind of obituary. I am not certain how much rent Trainweb charges to host the site, but I would certainly hope that "arrangements' could be made so that it is hosted indefinitely, as it is truly a unique historical resource.

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Ainsworth's passing. I met him once on a train excursion..... in the dome car of course.
