Forgive me for posting this here, but I don't know how many of you regularly read the "Open Discussion" forum.

I will be flying from Michigan to Key West this Saturday, through Atlanta, where they are screening all flights (domestic and international) for Ebola. I only have an hour and a half between flights (if the flight from Detroit is on time), and I am afraid I may miss the connection from Atlanta to Key West if I have to go through Ebola screening. I called Delta, and they assured me that I will NOT miss my connection, but I don't really believe them. If they screen all 300 passengers on my flight from Detroit, PLUS 300 passengers from who knows how many other flights into Atlanta Saturday AM, this will take much longer than 1 1/2 hours.

Has anyone here been through Ebola screening at Atlanta airport, or at any other airport? Should I change my reservation to fly through somehere other than Atlanta?

Of course, if AMTRAK had a train to Key West, you know I'd take that instead!!

Rich, I for one review and post at Open Discussion. Since my last flight for the year (save a family emergency), was to Munich during July, and since I know on my next flight I'll be seated "aft", "main cabin", or "back of the bus", I want to savor the memory of the superb in-flight service United provides in Business (especially since they are reputed to have the worst IFS of any of the legacy carriers) for as long as possible. Needless to say, I cannot answer your inquiry,

Now you have fun down there at EYW with your fellow "Parrotheads" (appears there is some kind of pow-wow going on).

And finally, Train Simulator can re create dreams:

RRRich, if it's the same screening as I've seen during previous scares (bird flu, mad cow) in various airports (in US, Europe, and Asia) then it's just a heat sensing camera overlooking some channel (eg a corridor) with a bored operator watching for any hot spots. You might not even see it. It's not a case of stopping everyone and sticking a thermometer in their mouth.

Of course, things may have changed since everywhere seems to be on alert level "Sheer Panic".

Geoff -- I hope you're right, but I was under the impression that they DO take your temperature and ask everyone if they have been to Africa or have been in contact with anyone who has been there lately.

Are you sure about the domestic screening at Atlanta, Rich? I can't find any news about that. But yes it looks like those that are actually selected for Ebola screening are taken somewhere, asked a questionnaire, and have their forehead temperature taken - but "only 9 people per day" on average get that level of screening apparently.

Geoff -- yes, I called Delta Airlines yesterday, and they told me they are doing domestic screening at Atlanta, but told me that I "won't miss my connecting flight."

I have not heard anything about only sreening 9 people per day, though.

Strange. You'd think it would make the news if they were screening everybody. The "9 a day" figure presumably comes from how many people actually typically arrive from one of the infected countries - seems reasonable.
