Cloudy today. Sky did get significantly darker around the time predicted for totality in Erie PA (I was not about to drive that far west), to the point of looking like a severe thunderstorm was about to hit.

Here in the Chicago area, where the skies were sunny and a 97% eclipse was expected, the totality only resulted in a dusk setting. I think Mr. Helfner's analogy in on mark.
But all told, three hours of Network News coverage, plus nothing even approaching "lights out", left me with an "overrated" feeling.
As the garbageman, when he came by at about ten minutes before totality, I said to him "about ten minutes to go", he simply said "I got a job to do and I want to get home".
