I've known about the Supperlinner site for awhile, I printed out a copy of the whole site and keep record of Supperlinners I've seen or been on.

Mr Pismo's compilations truly represent a labor of love; I sincerely thank him.

The most encouraging development during 2003 was that Mr. Gunn's policy of "if they wreck, we fix 'em", took hold. As a result of returning 13 Superliners to service last year, a third Sleeper line was offered throughout the peak travel season on the "Zephyr" end-to-end.

I can only hope that the plan to rebuild 13 more Superliners during this year will go forth.

True, Amtrak "got lucky" during both FY and CY 2003; there was only one major derailment, namely Hynesville during April. The Viewliner cars lost during that incident were reported to be back in service within three months. The last Superliner major derailment was Hayward during Sep 02, but that was on the heels of Crescent City and Kensington. Nevertheless, on a 26K mile System, things are going to happen and cars will have to be bad ordered. Continuation of the Superliner rebuild program calling for 13 additional cars, will relieve the "pressure" when "things happen".
