Hello all.

Taking Amtrak to Savannah GA from NYC.
Could not get a sleeper, so I'm sitting in business class. Any info on these types of seats? 16 hrs is a long time to be uncomfortable.

Thanks

I presume you are taking the daylight Palmetto for your journey.

Business Class cars come in an array of configurations, ranging anywhere from just plain Coach seating to ones that have been used in First Class services.

It is my understaning, however, that an attempt is made to assign cars that were originally configured for First Class or those with 2-1 seationg, to the longer distance Business Class services.

The seats are likely pretty comfortable but I'd bring a pillow or two anyway. You can buy a travel pillow or, better yet, a children's pillow, which is smaller than regular but bigger than a travel pillow. Wear comfortable loose clothing in layers you can add or remove to get yourself warmer or colder as need be. Wear comfortable shoes (I usually take mine off). Bring a second pair of warm socks in case your feet are cold. Take two tylenol, aspirin or such (whichever you usually take) beforehand and bring some extra. Also, bring an eye mask and ear plugs if you can use them (I usually play soothing music on my Walkman instead). Some people also bring a blanket but I don't, and as you are not traveling at night, you won't need it.

I really recommend the music--Walkman or IPOD. Also a good book or two. It's also fun to bring a map and description of the route to follow along as you travel, esp as you are making your trip by day.

The northbound 'Palmetto' from Savannah all the way to New York will have you on-board through three consecutive meal periods (breakfast, lunch, and supper. I suggest that you bring some of your own provisions along.

I believe that you will get complimentary soft drinks in business class (you do on Amtrak's New York-Charlotte 'Carolinian').

However, you will likely find the limited menu of microwaveable muffins, sandwiches, chips, and drinks in the Palmetto's cafe car less than satisfactory for three consecutive meals. Particularly if you are on a low-carb or vegetarian diet.

Thanks again for responding.

Comming back to NY I was able to get a sleeper, as the train pulls out of Savannah @ 10 PM.

Anything to do on a Train besides seating in a seat or sleeper. (bar car, viewing car, etc)

Thanks again
