From another forum, Auto-Train is out of service.

From the Orlando Sentinel, appears that routine inspection found cracks in the running gear of the auto carriers. Whether we're talking couplers, trucks, or other hard steel, I don't know.

Last estimate from those who manipulate amtrak.com schedules appears to be 5 days or so downtime from yesterday.

Can't find an official announcement at Amtrak.Com BUT their train status feature displays the dreaded "service interruption" message.

That's not a good sign.

"Here's whattya get", as of a few moments ago, when querying a reservation between tomorrow and Nov 23:

Problem Pricing Your Itinerary: Sorry, our booking system cannot price your itinerary. There may not be adequate seating or other accommodations on the train(s) you've selected. Please modify your selection and resubmit. Or, for additional assistance, please call 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245).
[Error ID: 124A]

Nov 24 is the first date for which at this time Amtrak is again accepting reservations.

There is nothing on the AMTRAK web site about the A-T disruption, but it has been on television news here in central Fla. the last few days.

The Wednesday night news here reported the situation and said "probably" back in service on Friday.

Here's the latest straight from the horse's mouth.

The website continues to accept Monday, November 24 reservations for North or Southward journeys

A further update: at this time Amtrak is accepting reservations for travel in either direction for Nov 22; however, in order to travel if not previously booked, you had best "have a Hog".

But there is Sleeper space open.

However be that as it may; I'll pass on that one. I've driven a motor scooter in Bermuda and a "mini-moke" in Barbados in this life; I've also been the GIB - guy in back - on a client's Hog; thank you, but these experiences are in the past.

AT is "good to go".

As of a few moments ago, today Southward, it remains "get a Hog" (and Roomette only). Northward it looks like "anything you want".
