Mr. Pullman, this whole charade simply represents what I've held from "the beginning" that the "$8B for HSR" was simply "sop" money to be allocated wherever the party in power, the Demmies, needed to deploy such for "max bennie" in the upcoming elections.
What should be paramount is simply what regions enhanced rail passenger service will best benefit the need for additional passenger carrying infrastructure minimizing, or even negating, the need for more costly ($$$$ and environment) additional air and highway capacity.
I am surprised, but please recuse that I am a resident, Illinois did not get on the gravy train. The race here for both Governor and US Senator could "go either way"; also as an aside, the "herd" I observed on my CHI-STL September trip aboard 303 (03 SEP) to our "Arch Rivalry" would suggest that, however imperfect, people are prepared to leave the "buggy" at home and ride trains.
