All--

Before I give AGR a call I thought I'd ask you all a question.

I have more than enough points for both a Bedroom and a Roomette on the Coast Starlight SBA-TAC for my Peace Corps 50th (!!) Reunion in early September.

There are two of us traveling and a single Roomette is not big enough for us. Two would work but I like the idea of my own toilet and shower.

Can you book more than one accommodation at a time like this?

Yes. Several times I've worked with AGR to get roomettes across from each other.

Perfect way to travel. If my wife gets on my nerves, I just close the door to my room and pull the curtains (truth be told, it's usually vice versa). But if we're getting along, and leave the doors & curtains open, it provides a view out of both sides of the train. And a convenient way to communicate to her my food and beverage needs.

If you need your own toilet and shower (gads, did you do your Peace Corp tour in Zip Code 90210, Mr. Frilly Pants?), then I suppose the bedroom is for you.

But come on, it's a Peace Corp reunion, for crying out loud. Cowboy up, and do it right. Go coach.

Yes. We did this last summer from NOL-CHI-DEN. Got a bedroom and a roomette since there were 3 of us and we didn't want the family bedroom. No problem at all.

Speaking of AGR. I want to book business class on the Surfliner for April. It looks like I need to call if I want to tell them about my husband's special needs, oxygen concentrator and wheelchair assist to the train.

Is this so, I must call rather than be able to book online?

As for Frank and the Peace Corp - perhaps he should sit on top of the car rather than inside!

Hey, this is a 50 year reunion! That means he was (as we all were at one time) young and stupid, and we didn't care where we slept. Now that we're older and wiser (LOL!), we know better....we want the creature comforts while we watch comfortably from a nice, soft warm bed. (Kinda like Marlin Perkins: "I'll watch safely from the boat, while Bob wrestles the anaconda".)

Yes, Frank you can book 2 rooms at a time with AGR. I did it for a trip to the Issac Walton Inn last January. We were across the hall from each other.
Having your own "oval office" is nice, but I have found the shared shower is better than the in-room one.
Smitty195 , I love your Marlin Perkins quote. It's one I use all the time, except I usually "wait downstream while Bob wrestles the alligator."

My new "default" station (EKH) has no baggage service or QuikTrak machine, but the parking is free! And the NY Central RR Museum is just across the tracks (but not open at Amtrak train times. . ..)

All--

I'm glad to have provided ammunition for a little levity here. At my expense. [Big Grin] [Razz]

Thanks for the info. I'll think about two Roomettes but I have a feeling the bedroom and a roomette will win out.

Vicky--

Thanks for the suggestion of riding on top of the car. I did ride a couple of times in the caboose of a train in Costa Rica -- on the FEP (Ferrocarril Eléctrico al Pacífico) from Río Grande to Puntarenas. I much preferred the Parlour Car on the train from San José to Limón. Sadly, neither operates fully today.

Smitty--

Yep, I was young but I'd like to think not TOO stupid. I was smart enough to get assigned to a beautiful country with warm, honest, open people and to a town (Atenas) where we had electricty and running water MOST of the time. Costa Rica was a VERY different place then.
