I tried booking a room at the Vagabond Inn (SAC) for my wife and I for July when we take our 2016 train trip, but the Vagabond apparently is sold out the two days we want. Instead, I made a reservation at the Delta King Hotel, which is a only couple blocks away, I assume located somewhere near where the Delta King is anchored. Does anyone know anything about Delta King Hotel?

Thanks...........

Railroad Rich

According to my AAA tour book, the Vagabond Inn is rated 2 black diamonds, while the Delta King has a 3 black diamond rating.

They also make notice of the "Pilothouse" restaurant, associated with the Delta King.

Rich - We have stayed there. Unless they now have a separate hotel, your room is on the ship. A great location on the water of course and easy walk to all the sights including RR museum. Room was small but a great experience. We were ready for it to head upriver. It's the sister ship to the Delta Queen now permanently moored in Chattanooga.

Palmland -- ????????? How can they book a room on a ship which actively operates cruises? I thought the Delta King was an active riverboat, with cruises up and down the Sac River scheduled at various times, especially in the summer months.

Another excellent restaurant, Rich, which is near the Delta King, is the "Firehouse" restaurant. It's been known for very good food for quite a long time. I don't think it's much more than 1-2 blocks from the Delta King:

It's true -

The Delta King Hotel is the riverboat Delta King.

It is no longer an active riverboat but will offer one of the more unique lodging experiences ever.

During southbound CS to CZ connections during the past two years, have walked over twice from Amtrak to the Delta King. Very atmospheric ship and--at least my two meals--good food.

One of the nicest things about the Delta King is its positioning in Old Town Sacramento. Love that area.

Sadly, the California State Railroad Museum also there does not open early enough for those making CS to CZ connections.
