fyi Train 5 of 16th is now arriving Salt Lake City as of 3:42PM MDT or 2:42PM PDT.
This is according to that EXCELLENT Live Amtrak map atasm dot transitdocs dot com. Train 5 of 16th deparrted Provo UT at 2:54PM MDT or 1:54 PDT
This train will PROBABLY TURN TERMINATE at Reno Tonight sun--Earlly early Monday 6-19-17. The normal 10 hour run time would give a Reno arrival at approx 1:15AM PDTto 1:40AM PDT early monday 6-19-17. This all depends on their speed across western Utah and across Nevada. AMtrak has reportedly been contacting ALL California passengers for eastbound Train 6 for Monday the 19th of June 2017 about a disruption. Thhat is the only LOGICAL operational possibility as Train 6 of Sunday 18th is operating normally out of California.
fyi Train 5 of the 16th and Train 6 of 15 got caught behiand a major Tornado in south Omaha NE Friday night 6-16-17. This is the reason for this very large delay to this westbound AMtrak California Zephyr 5 of 16th.

approx 3:19 PM PDT or 4:19PM MDT Train 5 departed Salt lake CIty 13.9 MPH speed northbound. Map update time 3:20PM PDT or 4:20PM MDT This is Train 5 of 16th info from the excellent live map at website asm dot transitdocs dot com. This info on suday June 18th 2017 or 6-18-17.
A 10 Hour normal run time to RNO--RENO should see this train arrive at around 1:15AM to 1:30AM PDT early 6-19-17 monday morning if things run reasonably well. fyi for Wendover UT fans the fastest amtrak passenger run time SLC to Wendover is about 90 minutes which should be just after 4:45PMto 4:50PM PDT today sunday 6-18-17 in 2017 ----Daniel

5:06PM PDT map time , Train 5 of 16 shows about 4 miles east of WENDOVER UT on the asm transitdocs map. Again as of 5:06 PM PDT Map time stamp on sunday 6-18-17. at 77.8 MPH Train has been running at about 79MPH across the Wendover to Knolls section of salt flats. Train 5 is normally scheduled to pass Wedover at approx 12:05AM PDT if train 6 NOT met east of Wendover UT. If eastbound Train 6 met east of Wendover the WENDOVER train 5 passing time is usually 12:20 AM PDT to 12:30AM PDT. ---Daniel

ok 68.9 MPH west of Wendover ut and east of OLA horseshoe at 5:21 PM PDT for Train 5 of 16th. ok 5.3 MPH westbound on Train 5 of 16 map time as of 5:15PM PDT at WENDOVER. Train is ovviously meeting a freight train or railroad maintenance vehicle at Wendover UT siding.
ok 5:10PM PDT at 1MPH (east Wendover UT area) (just west of Wendover UT east siding switch) Time for this very very late Train 5 of 16th. 5:10PM PDT time stamp on map for Amtrak CZ Trian 5 o f 16th. usual on time passage of Train 5 is 12:25AM PDT or so at WENDOVER UT.
fyi Train 6 eastbound usually passes Wendover at 11:35 PM PDT to 11:40PM PDT ish on on time schedule. This train is almost to the UT--NV state line and the time zone change from PT to MT. I am using the PT time zone to avoid confusion with California. ---Daniel

Very interestingly eastboundTrain 6 of 18th NOW also shows SERVICE DISRUPTION as of approx 5:35PM PDT on that excellent asm transitdocs live map. They are between Truckee and Reno.
Now I RELLy wonder what is going on here with these Amtrak trains ??? ----Daniel

Crew issues? A train that is 17+ hours late will have burned a few extra crews and left people out of position.
During my winter trip westbound on the Zephyr (train 5) the opposing train (6) was running over 20 hours late. There had been several days of cancellations due to heavy snow so the crews were rested and in place.

update 5 is moving at ALAZON NV at 8:00PM PDT clock stamp moving at 13 MPH. ALazon NV is about 3 miles west of Wells NV.
update Train 5 of 16 looks to be STOPPED at WIlls at 7:40PM PDT. speed 1MPH. Looks to be a Looong loong train trip for those poor souls on Train 5 of 16th just to get to Reno much less metor California.
About 3 miles south of WELLS NV at 7:35PM PDT clock stamp on Train 5 of 16 at 13.5 MPH heading north. Status maps still NOT tracking this train past , west of, Grand junction CO.
For info Train 6 of 18 stuck at Truckee CA behind a wildfire that is burning at Verdi NV on the CA NV border. The train and town of Truckee CAC are in NO danger that I know of. That is the reason for that service disruption. That fire is located about 15 direct air miles northeast of Truckee CA. ---Daniel

SURPRISE SURPRISE Train 6 of 18 now MOVING EAST thr BOCA CA area at 8:16PM at 39 MPH. It looks like the fire department must have enough contorl of that Verdi Fire to allow the railroad to reopoen in the Verdi NV west Reno NV area.
Train 5 of 16 is jsut east of DEETH NV (where 80 frwy cosses over obth rial lines, former SP and WP. That as of 8:16PM PDT at 49 MPH for Train 5 of 16th.

ok Trian 5 of 16 now stoped at ELKO NV at 9:27PM PDT 6-18-17. The regular schedule calls for a 5 HOUR journey to Reno NV. That arrival looks like a 2:30AM Reno arrival. Poor pax and crew. ---Daniel

ok Trian 5 of 16th has now just departed WNN about 2minutes ago . Map updated 12 Midnight 6-19-17 monday. Train 5 arrived Winemucca NV first and Train 6 of 18 had to wait on the winemucca siding for Train 5 to clear. --Daniel
