PRR stock cars in California! Talk about a long trip. I used to see these cars as late as the mid-50's bringing horses to Belmont Park on the LIRR. I wonder how many cars like this were on the roster.

March 1963 Official Register shows PRR with 16 cars of AAR Mechanical Designation BH:

"Horse or Horse and Carriage Express:

A car constructed and equipped to render it suitable for passenger train service for the transportation of fine stock, with or without stalls (movable or stationary) and with or without space left for carriage or horse equipment."

Doubt if any railroads have shipped a horse in the last 60 years, although it once was the method of choice. Nowadays, it's all done in over the road vans or, for long distances, specialized air carriers.
