Volks, it's going to hurt CPKC.

There is a sobering, hard hitting column in June TRAINS by Bill Stephens regarding CPKC's business plan. All told, if the tariffs not imposed on North American trade by the Trump administration stand, it's a "so much for the plan".

While TRAINS "fastidiously" safeguards their copyrighted material, one example is the CPKC practice of handling auto carriers from Canada, unloading them near Dallas, running them MTY to near Monterrey, loading them, then back to Dallas and eventually to Canada with loads. The tariffs will "mortally wound" that practice. In effect, the auto carriers run in a circle between Canada and Mexico ensuring availability.

Never mind what will happen to the development of Lazaro Cardenas and other Mexican maritime ports.

For those who (still) subscribe to TRAINS, this has got to be amongst the most hard hitting columns I've read ever since DPM came down from the masthead.

Interesting to hear this, Gilbert. I was aware of problem relating to a number of industries like the motorcar industry which moved items across the US)Canada border during the assembly process and which means ght attract repeat tariffs.

Reverend, perhaps a library around your parts gets TRAINS. Unlike other publications "over here" which in the early internet days last century just let all their material be circulated for free on the internet, TRAINS carefully safeguarded theirs.

As a result, while other nationally circulated publications, such as The New York Times, had to "walk back" what was once free - and live with the vocal griping of "I didn't use to have to pay for this", TRAINS never blanketly posted their material on the internet.
