The Railway Magazine of November 1954 reported that East African Railways & Harbours had begun to name its new ’60’ Class Beyer- Garratt locomotives. They chose to name them after past and present Governors. The ’60’ Class were then the most powerful Beyer-Garratt locomotives to be delivered to East Africa. Twenty-seven (29? [1]) had been ordered, and by the Autumn of 1954, twenty-five had been delivered, with 20 already in service.

Other locomotive classes were also given names. ... The short linked article focuses on the *** 59 and Class 60 Beyer-Garratts.

Reverend, how you had time to do God's work, research and compile the material needed for your articles escapes me. I know I wouldn't with my work as a Chartered Accountant.

Africa is one of the three continents in which I never set foot during this life; maybe the next. So anything I've learned about African railway history has essentially come from your work.

Thank you Gilbert. I am now retired and only cover for others. This means I am a house-husband as well as pursuing my own interests.

Best wishes

Roger
