I am concerned that the lack of media coverage observing the 16th anniversary of 9/11 means "we've forgotten".

Now it is true that there are other more timely events, such as Irma in the East, Wildfires in the West, and a major earthquake in Oaxaca (State), Mexico. Further, 16th anniversary is "nothing special" as are a 20th and 25th.

But I fear that with the only TV coverage of the events being on History and American Heroes, we're forgetting - and I pray such will not be the case. Both CNN and MSNBC have aired actual coverage of the events as they occurred - not this year.

As for myself, I "was out" for my Father's Memorial Service (deceased Aug 21) the weekend prior (I learned at his nursing home, they were telling the residents "it's just a horror movie"). The weather was perfect, and from my Sister's backyard in Greenwich, one could see the NY skyline, including The Towers, some 25 miles away. A fellow I only tangentially knew (grade school) was with Cantor....no remains have been found.

Let us not forget.

This should be an event engraved in the memory of everyone that was mentally functional at the time.

I was in Taiwan at the time. Thanks to the time difference, I was just coming in from work, gotten of the motorscooter and walked up the steps. When I opened the door to the apartment, I could see the TV with a picture of the world trade center buildings with smoke pouring out of one. My first thought was that it was a movie. My wife said, "Don't say a word" I do not even remember whether the comments were in English, Chinese, or if there even was any. What I do remember was seeing the plane hit the second building and its wierd angle and direction and watching both buildings collapse. Those pictures will proablbly among the last fading from my memory.

My first thought was that the death toll will be at least 10,000. A miricle it was so small. As I scroll back in my head, the plane hitting the second building was not that far off from missing it. Even if it had, there are plenty of other tall buildings in lower Manhattan, so even with worse ineptitude by the hijackers it would likely have hit something.

There was a personal connection as well. Our company had an office in one of these and I had spent a couple of weeks in it in late 1995. All our people got out. One wrote a description of it later from the viewpoint of poeple that went through it.

This is one of only two events truly engraved in my brain. The other is hearing that Kennedy had been shot. I can tell exactly how I heard and where and what I was doing when I heard those words, "The president has been shot."

For my parents generation, that event is the bombing of Pearl Harbor. For any of them that are still among us, ask them, and they can tell you exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard about it. They can probably do that even if they have difficulty remembering their own name.
