Does anyone have any recent experience with a hotel in the Washington, DC area that is within two blocks of any metro station?
I'm looking for something along the lines of a Comfort Inn. The hotel I have relied on in the past is now a Quality Inn in College Park, MD and the rate there the night I had hoped to use it is in the $125.00 range...... same for the Red Roof Inn near Union Station.
I will pay that kind of scratch for a hotel when I intend to be on the premises for more than just 10-12 hours....... but I'm reluctant to go there for the likes of a Red Roof!
For the trip I am contemplating, I'm hoping to find a room for about $90 and am willing to endure a long Metro ride.

Oh and speaking of "Tables with a view", I have to note that the Coffee House no longer effectively has any. While I of course continue to go there as I have now for twenty-five years and know the owning family very well, it seems like she has chosen to stuff the windows full of seasonal "displays' with Halloween being "on view' (yet blocking my view) at present. While I "keep it to myself' (likelihood she will read this site is slim to none and have no intention of "writing her up' on Yelp), I could do nicely without any of the impedimentia (I DID complain to her when some twentysomething college kid working there decided to "change" the background music from Classical to Lite Rock - that was fixed).
But then, what do I know about restaurant marketing.

Last month I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown, Silver Spring MD. Although I did not need to use it the staff person told me that the Metro to D.C. was within walking distance.

Walking distance to the Branch Avenue Metro Station...... hotel provides shuttle as well. Advance purchase rate of $87.75 before tax.
The recommended Courtyard on the Metro Red Line looked very enticing but I'd need to be making a two-night stay to get the weekend rate and bring it into an acceptable price range for me at this point.

David you might try the Hotel Harrington in Washington. It is right in the middle of everything and their web site is good. The explanation about transportation will be a big help

I liked the Harrington, and last summer (2009) I got a room for $109 there. But that may be higher in the fall; I don't know. Location was fabulous.
