At the Canadian Forum; market cap is a new measurement tool, and by such, CP is now larger than CSX:

I think this would benefit CP more than CSX - assuming it got past the governmental reviews. Initial report I heard was that CSX rebuffed Harrison's initiative.

Here is Fred Frailey's take.

Here is also an article, from TRAINS, which reverts back to 2005 which suggests the likelyhood of a Kansas City Southern-CP or CN merger:

At least, back then, they say Kansas City Southern was exempted from merger restrictions.

At what point will STB/DOJ say no, anti-competitive?

We are getting close.

I don't think a merger is viable from the regulators in this Administration. Much depends on the 2016 election cycle. A Democrat (eg, Hillary), will probably mean no anti-trust level mergers. A Republican may well...

My thoughts.

The City of Saint Louis (UP, 1967) is still my standard for passenger operations
