I was curious about a train that has been gone for some time. There used to be a train out of LAX called the Desert Wind. What were the destinations for this train. Isn't this the last train that ever served Las Vegas NV? What train numbers were they? Why did they do away with this route? And most of all-CAN ANYBODY TELL ME HOW I CAN GET AN OLD TIMETABLE/SCHEDULE FOR THIS TRAIN? I'm very curious. Was it daily/tri-weekly? Service performance?

I just googled Amtak and "Desert Wind."

WELL, WHAT DO YOU KNOW??????

I found an extract timetable, info on the train from our host here at trainweb, all kinds of good stuff.

I'll give you this much: Trains 35 and 36.

This topic shows up every few months; do a history search on this forum.

The Desert Wind disappeared in '97 as one of several cutbacks (Pioneer disappeared around then also).

You can read stories from my many trips on the Desert Wind and my first trip listed at the bottom was an Amfleet Train back in the very early days of the service,
